Toby Rudolf has allegedly lit up the Bermuda Triangle with a full moon after being asked to leash his dog.
Rudolf plays NRL for the Cronulla Sharks and his alleged full moon has earned him a nomination for The Frownlow Medal.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes: the men’s and women’s National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while AFL player Noah Balta is the most recent recipient.
Bermuda Triangle is the nickname for Shark Park, Cronulla’s home ground. It is called this because of the inexplicable things which happen during games at the ground, including those in which Rudolf has played.
Some of the incidents are almost as bizarre as this story.
Apparently, Rudolf was happily walking his dogs when approached by a council ranger. The ranger reminded the hard-running front rower that he had two dogs, but only one leash, and that he would be required to leash both dogs at some point.
Like any good front rower, Rudolf tried to assert himself over the ranger, and an argument ensued. The ranger then threatened to seize one of the dogs and would have forced Rudolf to play favourites with one canine, so instead of breaking a pup’s heart, Rudolf continued the argument then allegedly dropped his pants and showed a full moon to the ranger.
A full moon is a rare sighting in broad daylight in January, even in the home of the Bermuda Triangle, so the ranger reported the incident and Rudolf was charged with offensive behaviour in a public place.
There are suggestions that an image was taken of the moon, and rumours are circulating that this image will be displayed on the big screen at Shark Park for the rest of the 2026 season.
