Former Wallabies captain Rocky Elsom is living out the plot of a James Bond film on his way to a nomination for The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame.
Elsom reportedly fled Ireland and is hiding in an undisclosed location after the French authorities sentenced him to five years in prison for alleged forgery and embezzlement.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes: the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Talatau Amone is the most recent recipient.
The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame honours former players and players who received media attention in previous seasons, for similarly scandalous behaviour, and its inductees include Ben Cousins and Julian O’Neill.
Elsom has been found guilty of misuse of corporate assets and forgery in his role as former president of French rugby union club Narbonne in 2015 and 2016.
The ex Brumbies and Waratahs player was accused of making a “completely unjustified” payment of $A128,000 to a former coach, as well as a monthly salary of approximately $11,670 to an Australian resident tasked with acting as Narbonne’s general manager, but who reportedly “never came to Narbonne” and “did not provide any services” to the French club.
As well as the prison sentence, the judge ordered Elsom to pay back $1.1 million that he was judged to have embezzled.
Elsom strongly denies the allegations, labelling the court process a “clear perversion of justice,” and says he “was not informed of (the) hearing and was not given the opportunity to defend myself against the allegations.”
He firmly believes he is the laconic hero in this drama, and not the villain.
From his secret spy bunker somewhere on earth, Elsom demanded a complete list of the documents and filing used to secure the prison sentence, and said that,
“Not allowing me to defend the charges is a clear perversion of justice. I have a little more information on the evidence that was presented.”
He then called on the public to “consider the legitimacy of any process that does not allow for the involvement of the person being prosecuted,” and called on his bartender to consider bringing him a martini,
“…shaken, not stirred.”

One response to “Elsom, Rocky Elsom.”
He’s been a total recluse for the last 8 years for good reason. He’s been living in the hills west of Noosa QLD with his mum and ‘friend’ Lei Tomiki. He’s unkept and displays odd behaviours. This guy has known the French would catch up with him at some point. The French would have attempted to summons him but would have had no way of tracking him down.
