Sam, Daniel and Roger Kerr have become the first family to be nominated for The Frownlow Medal Hal of Fame after Daniel earned his third nomination.
Daniel was recently nominated after revelations of alleged domestic violence and outrageous behaviour just months after Matildas star Sam was caught up in a racism scandal in England. Proving fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, father Roger, who was also an excellent Australian Rules Football player, was nominated for Frownlow honours in 2016 for assault.
Daniel was nominated in 2016 and 2020 for numerous scandals. His third nomination came after revelations that he inflicted physical, psychological, verbal and financial abuse on his former partner for at least six years.
Kerr reportedly destroyed her property, gained control of her finances and her social media accounts and marred the relationship with drug and alcohol abuse. During the court case, it was revealed that Kerr repeatedly assaulted the woman and once punched her while holding keys, before licking the blood off his hands.
He also grabbed her by the hair, threw her against a wall, punched her while she was holding their child and twice put his hand around her neck and punched her.
In mid-2020, the woman took out a violence restraining order against him.
Somehow, he avoided prison. Perhaps it was his lawyers claim that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, which was blamed on his time in custody – not for the domestic violence, but for setting fire to a house his parents owned.
Sam and Daniel are not the first siblings to earn nominations.
The Burgess brothers from the NRL dominate this category after all four were nominated, and the Silvagni brothers made a bid on behalf of the AFL.
Daniel and Roger joined the Father and Son category in 2016, alongside fellow AFL stars Jimmy and Andrew Krakouer and both Gary Abletts, while John and Jamil Hopoate and Wendell and Tristan Sailor fly the flag for the NRL.
The Kerrs are the first brother and sister, the first father and daughter and the first family from two separate codes.
