Braydon Trindall becomes number 7.

NRL player Braydon Trindall becomes the seventh footballer to earn a nomination for The Frownlow Medal in 2024 after being arrested for driving offences.

Trindall allegedly failed a roadside drug and alcohol test and has been stood down by the Cronulla Sharks.

The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Talatau Amone is the most recent recipient.

Trindall has been charged with failing a roadside drug and alcohol test after partying with friends south of Sydney to celebrate the Sharks’ big win over North Queensland. He was stopped for a random breath test and was found to be driving on an expired licence and reportedly returned a sample positive for alcohol and illicit drugs in excess of the legal limit. The playmaker will appear in court in May, and that may determine how he gets to the awards night for The Frownlow Medal and The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame later this year.
