How Wendell Sailor is making the world a better place.

Wendell Sailor is making the world a better place; one arrest at a time.

The former league and union star is improving the world every time he gets arrested and earns yet another nomination for The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame.

The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes: the men’s and women’s National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Ezra Mam is the most recent recipient.

The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame honours former players and players who received media attention in previous seasons, for similarly scandalous behaviour, and its inductees include Ben Cousins and Julian O’Neill.

Sailor claims he is just trying to help make the world a better place on his Instagram page. It’s not entirely clear who he’s helping apart from the Frownlow judges.

The ex Wallaby and Origin star was arrested yet again and put into police custody after allegedly being found blocking traffic in the middle of a busy road south of Sydney.

Police received reports of a man yelling and standing in the middle of the road in Wollongong about 11pm. He was allegedly stopping traffic near a busy intersection while apparently under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Sailor also allegedly fought officers’ attempts to move him before being charged.

The former winger was accused of breaching bail conditions, obstructing traffic and resisting arrest, and was held in custody ahead of his appearance in court.

Sailor’s legal team blamed the recent breakdown of his marriage when he appeared in court wearing a Chicago Bulls T-shirt. He will struggle to avoid punishment as the act was a breach of bail conditions that prevented him from being intoxicated in public due to a previous incident.

In November 2024, he was arrested in Sydney and charged with common assault, behaving in an offensive manner, refusing to leave a licensed premises and intimidation after allegedly attacking two men outside a bar. That also earned him a Frownlow nomination.

Del loves a chat, and he can tell everyone how he’s fixing the world at the awards night for The Frownlow Medal and The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame in just a few weeks time.
