Former NRL player Nathan Daly has tried to censor The Frownlow Medal because he is now a respectable family man.
Daly was nominated for the hall of fame in 2022 after being arrested for public nuisance at a casino. He then earned another nomination after being the subject of an enormous thread of comments about him on a website called thedirty.com.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Ezra Mam is the most recent recipient.
The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame honours former players and players who received media attention in previous seasons, for similarly scandalous behaviour, and its inductees include Ben Cousins and Julian O’Neill.
The extensive thread is titled ‘Stay Away From Nathan Daly Sydney’ and it includes unproven accusations that Daly is a liar, a thief, a drug addict and a con artist, who used a fake name on Twitter and has deceived many women in Australia and overseas. None of the accusations have ever been proven despite claims police had opened a case against Daly.
Women on the thread accuse Daly of befriending them and using his looks and charm to win their confidence, before convincing them to pay for things or stealing their money, jewellery and possessions. The former Bronco is also accused of getting a woman pregnant and refusing to care for the child, as well as running off with the woman’s money.
In response to the Frownlow nomination, Daly took the time to contact the medal with the following request in early 2025:
Hey Guys
Love the banter! However, someone at my work has pointed out there are 2 pages dedicated to myself. The first page was the incident of myself being kicked out of the casino back in 2010 which is totally fine and true, of course.
The 2nd however of me being on “Ex on the beach international” is completely unfounded along with all the other references in the page. I can assure you I’m not that interesting haha. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind bringing down the 2nd post/page with the reference to myself being on ex on the beach. I have a young family now and a career post football that’s important to me.
Really appreciate it guys!
Keep up the banter
Nathan
