The world’s most expensive oven.

Former AFL player Sam Fisher found the world’s most expensive oven and the achievement has earned him another nomination for The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame.

The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Talatau Amone is the most recent recipient.

The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame honours former players and players who received media attention in previous seasons, for similarly scandalous behaviour, and its inductees include Ben Cousins and Julian O’Neill.

Fisher acquired the oven at Harvey Norman but it was no ordinary oven. It didn’t just cook perfect roasts or bake delectable cakes, it cooked something a lot more lucrative – drugs.

Fisher was found guilty of collecting the oven which contained meth and cocaine worth thousands of dollars and of delivering it to the house of a co-conspirator in the drug smuggling ring in 2022. The former St Kilda player was also found to be in possession of 100s of thousands of dollars in cash as well as other illicit drugs.

Fisher was also using. His lawyer claimed his drug use was so severe that he was not fit to face court at the time of the hearing, and other teammates have previously commented on his drug use during his playing career.

This earned him his first Frownlow nomination, and he earns his second after pleading guilty to multiple charges of trafficking cocaine and other drugs between Victoria and Western Australia. The drugs included LSD, meth, ketamine and testosterone.

His lawyer used the customary excuse of a former sports star whose life spiralled out of control due to injuries and time away from the sport, but Fisher will soon learn whether this is enough to avoid a prison sentence to accompany his nomination for The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame.
