Curtis Scott is certain to defeat former NRL teammate Joey Leilua in their upcoming boxing match because of their respective standing in The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame.
Scott has already been inducted into the hall of fame while Leilua receives his first nomination just moments before the former Raiders face off in the ring in Canberra.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes for men and women; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. Kiwi international Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015 and NRL player Talatau Amone is the most recent recipient.
The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame honours former players and players who received media attention in previous seasons, for similarly scandalous behaviour, and its inductees include Ben Cousins and Julian O’Neill.
Leilua earns his Frownlow nomination for sending naked photos of his ex-girlfriend on a mobile phone after a confrontation with her at a hotel in Sydney in 2012. As a result, he was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond.
At the time, he was also arrested and charged with assault and breaching a six-month enforceable AVO. This came less than a week after he was called into the NSW State of Origin camp.
It was alleged that Leilua spat in the face of his ex-girlfriend during an argument,” a Police Media statement said. Scott, meanwhile, was found guilty of repeated physical assault of his former girlfriend and this is what earned him his induction, as well as favouritism in the upcoming bout between the two ex-students of Endeavour Sports High.
The two-time Dally-M centre of the year was released on $6000 bail and at the end of the year was released from his Roosters contract due to disciplinary reasons.[18]He then played for a number of other NRL clubs, before heading to England and finally to the Dapto Canaries on the NSW South Coast.
Scott claims every other NRL player is scared of his fists, and recent statements from his former girlfriend suggest they have good reason to be. As for Leilua, he once boasted that he was the best centre in the NRL, and he will carry the same self-confidence into the ring, as well as a fresh nomination for The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame.
