Valentine Holmes is a star for the Cowboys, the Maroons and the Kangaroos and is one of the best centres in the world. His star shines so bright he expects to escape punishment for his latest nomination for The Frownlow Medal.
The NRL star recently posted a selfie on social media holding a small bag containing white powder.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Manase Fainu is the most recent recipient.
Holmes denies using illicit drugs and the exact nature of the powder is not known.
However,
He took the photo.
He posted it to his own social media account.
He is holding white powder – in the off-season.
Despite this, media reports stated that it is not known what the substance is and there is no implication of wrongdoing on Holmes’ part.
Why does Holmes expect to get away with this indiscretion?
Holmes expects to get away with this latest incident, because he suffered no major setbacks after his first Frownlow nomination. In 2016 he was banned from State of Origin for 12 months after breaking curfew at a Qld emerging origin camp. He’s now one of their all-time highest try scorers. He has also been fined for public nuisance and obstructing police.
