AFLW player Jess Hosking has earned herself a new nickname and a nomination for The Frownlow Medal.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Jarryd Hayne is the most recent recipient.
Hosking will now be known as Jet Ski Jess after being charged with allegedly driving a jet ski while under the influence of alcohol during a holiday in Surfers Paradise.
It is alleged that the Richmond Tigers player was driving a personal water craft while over the middle alcohol limit.
This is Hosking’s first nomination for The Frownlow Medal. She came close earlier this year when she played a game with a crude message written on her strapping tape, but escaped punishment from the AFL and her club.
Take a close look at her strapping next season and you’re sure to see the name Jet Ski Jess.
