Former NRL player Nathan Daly will star in the first series of Ex on the Beach: International after becoming the subject of a nasty online exchange between multiple women throughout the world.
Daly has already been nominated for The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame after being arrested for public nuisance, but was nominated for the reality TV show after producers read the enormous thread of comments about him on a website called thedirty.com.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Jarryd Hayne is the most recent recipient.
The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame honours former players and players who received media attention in previous seasons, for similarly scandalous behaviour, and its inductees include Ben Cousins and Julian O’Neill.
The extensive thread is titled ‘Stay Away From Nathan Daly Sydney’ and it includes unproven accusations that Daly is a liar, a thief, a drug addict and a con artist, who used a fake name on twitter and has deceived many women in Australia and overseas. None of the accusations have ever been proven despite claims police had opened a case against Daly.
Women on the thread accuse Daly of befriending them and using his looks and charm to win their confidence, before convincing them to pay for things or stealing their money, jewellery and possessions. The former Bronco is also accused of getting a woman pregnant and refusing to care for the child, as well as running off with the woman’s money.
Comments claim he also created conflict with his own relatives over money, and that he stole from and cheated on a woman called Yvonne Coldeweijer in The Netherlands:
“Google Nathan Daly and his ex Yvonne coldeweijer. He stole from her and cheated on her several times. If you translate the articles she had him removed from the country as she was his sponser,” reads the unproven comment on thedirty.com. Further comments claim Daly was eventually deported from The Netherlands, which is also unproven.
“These accusations make Nathan perfect for a role on reality TV,” state the producers of Ex on the Beach: International “…and demonstrate exactly why so many former footballers are appearing on reality TV shows all over Australia.”
“The online thread on thedirty.com is full of vitriolic and spiteful comments attacking and defending Nathan, and even if the comments are completely untrue it doesn’t matter, they will still hook viewers and drive up our ratings.”
Producers were also excited that the accusations continued.
Women claim Daly also boasted about a prestigious role on the Australian Olympic team and exaggerated his ability as a professional footballer. The latter is clearly the most believable claim on the entire thread, as his NRL career never reached any great heights. Women are also extremely shocked and disgusted that Daly took up a position with a charity working with vulnerable children.
At the same time, many women on the thread staunchly defend Daly and strongly refute the claims of other women, and portray him as attractive, charming, honest and decent.
“It’s very obvious this is a small group of scorned, unstable women who have gotten together to try and brin him down,” read one of many similar comments.
“I mean the accusations aren’t even original, it’s prettu standard for immature people to come out with the he/she is a drd crack head anyway haha.”
“Oh my god girl, get over it. Each time you post is more desperate and pathetic then the last haha. Seriously!! You got rejected by a guy, get a grip and a life. Your just a stalker. We who are all his real friends know the truth. As I said before, a bunch of scorned, crazed, obsessed and classless lunatics that can’t accept that HE DONT WANT YOU HAHA”
“Some of the comments are priceless,” explained EOTBI producers. “Even our writers couldn’t script this stuff, like this one:”
“You’re so upset I called you and the rest classless yet you went on a bogan rampage name calling and carrying on like a wild animal. Stop with the lies. If he stole from you and all these other women then the man would be in jail you stupid stupid woman. And all the crying and carrying on that he is putting women at risk by having drds and spreading them, guess what? Stop being a dirty hoe, know who your sleeping with and for the love of god take some responsibility and wear a condom. This is laughable, Nathan and my self have both laughed, you are all spiraling out of control and the stories get crazier. Death threats, unborn babies, thousands stolen , drugs, lol. He seems to be doing pretty well considering he isn’t in jail for all these alleged falsified claims. Go back to stalking another sports star that use groupies for sex. It’s clearly all any of you had been worth.”
“You could just imagine jealous contestants saying this stuff to each other behind the scenes on reality TV couldn’t you,” continued the producers.
EOTBI creators were also intrigued by a post that appears to be written by a lawyer or someone official. Someone calling themselves The Investigator wrote in 2018;
“Due to the nature of the defamatory post, We suggest this is removed in a timely manner. Your digital fingerprint and IP address is now known. After several failed attempts to contact you we will proceed with informing the board of registration of dentistry VIC of the current situation. ie- Harrassment, Stalking, Defamation.”
“If he can incite that much hatred, conflict, emotion, swearing, devotion and spite online, imagine what he can create on screen,” said producers.
The person who posted the original comments which prompted the thread on thedirty.com, at one point asks for the comments to be removed, stating:
“EMAILED: Nik, as you can see from my email I am the person who wrote the comments under – Leopards don’t change their spots.
Can you please delete my comments as I now am fearing for my safety and I need these removed. Please can you do this for me?
No.- nik“
It is believed network executives are considering turning the reality TV show into a soap opera, such is the drama, vitriol, emotion and controversy surrounding this one man. It might even be called ‘ The Dirty’ in honour of the website which launched Daly’s reality TV career.
