Gold Coast Titans rookie Karl Lawton got himself arrested and charged with assault during a Mad Monday incident in a late attempt to land a nomination for The Frownlow Medal.
Lawton became involved in an incident with another male on the Gold Coast to prove to senior players, and big brother Kayne, that he could continue the famous tradition of Mad Monday controversy.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. The first medal was awarded to Sydney Roosters and New Zealand representative Shaun Kenny-Dowall in 2015.
Lawton joins Kalyn Ponga, Jake Clifford, Gach Nyoun, Liam Knight and the owner of a mystery penis, in advocating for a junior category in the highly prestigious inter-code award.
The rising star is said to be so excited at the nomination that he has already consulted his girlfriend for advice on the colour of the designer label underwear he should wear to the awards ceremony.
