Tyrone Munro could win footy’s biggest honour.

Tyrone Munro has never played for his state or country but could win The Frownlow Medal in 2025 after being charged with domestic violence.

The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes: the men’s and women’s National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Ezra Mam is the most recent recipient.

Munro was charged after an alleged domestic violence-related assault in April 2025. A woman told police she had been assaulted by her partner in Sydney and the South Sydney player was arrested and taken to a police station.

The charges include assault occasioning actual bodily harm (domestic), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), common assault (domestic).

The Rabbitohs winger will face court in late October and this could determine whether or not he plays in the NRL again and if he wins the most prestigious award in Australian sport in 2025.
