Josh Addo-Carr has created even more controversy following the drug-related incident which saw him stood down. The NRL player is sweating on the outcome of a meeting which will determine if he has been nominated for The Frownlow Medal.
The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes: the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Talatau Amone is the most recent recipient.
Addo-Carr allegedly tested positive to an illicit substance during a recent roadside drug test. However, as soon as the news broke, multiple sources claimed that he had tested negative while others were adamant that he was positive, making this one of the most confusing Frownlow nominations ever.
“Weeks of frantic phone calls and messages to police, witnesses, media liaisons, drug dealers and other sources still gave us no clear indication as to whether Josh had in fact taken illicit drugs. So, we called the highest authority in the land: Phil Gould.”
“Gus assured us he is innocent, so that’s what we’re going with at the moment.
What does that mean?
His nomination is pending.”
The only certainty is that he won’t play this weekend against Manly in the elimination final. Even that decision is surrounded in mystery as the Bulldogs claim Addo-Carr stood himself down.
“Regardless of who made the decision, at the end of the day, Frownlow judges are concerned with giving Josh what he deserves. A Frownlow nomination is an enormous honour so it is vital that the correct information is gleaned before issuing a nomination. It is especially important because Josh missed out on the medal from his previous nomination.”
In 2020, the Foxx broke COVID lockdown rules and socialised with his bestie Latrell Mitchell and other footballers on Mitchell’s property.
Will he win the medal this year?
