Mitch Kenny in line for The Frownlow Medal.

NRL player Mitch Kenny is psyched for The Frownlow Medal after party later this year and has already started planning an epic night.

Kenny earned his ticket to Australia’s biggest party after a controversial post on social media in late 2023.

The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern-day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while NRL star Talatau Amone is the most recent recipient.

The Penrith Panthers hooker will miss the first game of the 2024 season after he posted on social media that he was going to enjoy a “couple Boxing Day lines”. He wasn’t talking about standing in the queue at the MCG, nor was he planning to join the throngs inspecting the yachts about to set off on the Sydney to Hobart.

He was talking about other lines.

White lines.

More enjoyable lines.

Much more enjoyable.

Kenny was allowed to play in Penrith’s World Club Challenge game against Wigan, but may have preferred to sit it out following the embarrassing loss. He was also given a $10,000 fine.

This is all an inconvenience to Kenny. The Panthers will most likely play finals footy and could realistically make another grand final. More important is the after party for The Fronwlow Medal and The Frownlow Medal Hall of Fame to be held later this year. This is Australia’s biggest party because anything goes, and with a venue full of disgraced footballers, anything can and usually does happen. Mitch is assured that he can do more than ‘a couple’ of lines.
